English Language Arts
Our curriculum intertwines reading and writing, while also allowing for stand alone reading and writing activities. Students will be reaching out across the states to communicate with children in another classroom through writing and even video chatting! Our class will have ample opportunities to foster their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through a variety of experiences.
ReadingWe will be reading both fiction and non-fiction texts throughout the year. Books will be read in both whole group and small group settings. Several books will be read aloud throughout the year. We will be practicing critical skills such as:
WritingWe will regularly be writing responses to the books and passages that we read in class. On top of that, students will be writing in the following genres:

SpellingStudents will learn a new lesson in spelling each week from the district spelling book. There will be a pre-test on Mondays and a post-test on Fridays. The majority of homework in ELA will be the practicing of spelling words.
